Eletre made in China? I had to do a double-take because it sounded too wild to be true, but it’s the real deal. Gotta admit, I’m a bit let down. I’ve got a hunch we might see more Lotus models rolling out of China soon.

Now, don’t get me wrong - China can definitely crank out some good stuff at a price that doesn’t break the bank. But let’s be honest, a lot of what comes out of there is pretty hit or miss because everyone’s cutting corners to save a buck.

That said, I'm ready to give them the benefit of the doubt on the build quality before jumping to any conclusions. What’s your take on this?

While some products may be of lower quality due to cost-cutting measures, I believe their build quality can be quite good. Let's avoid making broad generalizations about Chinese products, which provide high-quality goods at competitive prices.

Right now, the big hurdle in the US is that sky-high tariff on Chinese EVs, which makes it tough for these cars to even stand a chance. With the massive duty on the Eletre, it's hard to see how it'll draw in many buyers especially since it was already on the pricey side to start with!

After all, Lotus is owned by the Chinese. What did you expect?

Just because Lotus is now in Chinese hands doesn’t mean they’ll totally throw their legacy out the window. The Eletre’s design and performance still look pretty darn solid, so I’m cautiously optimistic. But yeah, the tariffs and the price tag definitely complicate things.

the "Made in China" sticker on a Lotus definitely raises an eyebrow doesn't it? there's a mix of quality coming out of China, and it's always a gamble. But Lotus is a premium brand and they've got a reputation to uphold so hopefully, they've got serious quality control in place.
