We recently took delivery of our Lotus Eletre, and it’s been an absolutely fantastic experience so far, an incredible vehicle in every way! However, we’ve run into a bit of an issue with our insurance, and I’m hoping someone here might be able to help.

Our insurer is requiring confirmation that the car has a Cat 5 tracker installed. They’ve stated that they can’t finalize our policy without this information, which has been frustrating. The problem is, we’ve had no luck getting clear answers from either the dealership. They’ve been very slow to respond, and we’re still in the dark about whether the Lotus Connect system meets the Cat 5 standard or not.

We’re wondering if anyone here has dealt with a similar situation. Does anyone know if Lotus Connect qualifies as a Cat 5 tracker, or is there a way to independently verify the security rating? If not, has anyone installed an aftermarket tracker on their Eletre to meet insurance requirements?

It’s such a small detail that’s becoming a significant headache, and we’d love to get it sorted so we can fully enjoy the car without this hanging over us.

Your dealership really should be able to confirm whether Lotus Connect meets Cat 5 requirements, it’s frustrating when they’re slow to respond. If they can’t clarify, it might be worth reaching out to Lotus HQ directly or a specialist installer for confirmation.

I had a similar issue with my insurer, and to save time, I ended up having a separate Cat 5 tracker installed. It was straightforward, and the installer provided a certificate that satisfied the insurance company. If the dealership can't confirm the Lotus Connect system meets the standard, this might be the quickest way to resolve the problem and avoid further delays.

You should talk to a car security expert. They might be able to help. Or you could get an aftermarket tracker, but make sure it's a good one.
