I’ve had my EV for about a month now and the range is way off. Yesterday, I barely got 200 miles when I actually hit 305 on a full charge. I was cruising in tour mode with the AC cranked up. Anyone else dealing with this kind of thing? Got any clues on what’s up? I’m starting to think my car’s messing with me!

Welcome to the forum! Your driving style determines your range. Is it cold where you live? Cold weather can impact range. Remember that advertised ranges are frequently ideal and not always possible in real-world situations.

I know it’s a letdown when the range doesn’t match the estimate. EV range can vary a lot based on things like AC usage, speed, driving mode, and even the road conditions. In tour mode with the AC blasting, it’s likely pulling more power than the range estimator expects. You could try tracking your range over a few drives with different settings to see how much it fluctuates. Eco mode or turning down the AC a bit might help extend it closer to that 305-mile estimate.

Regenerative braking can significantly impact the actual range of an EV. I've noticed that in mixed driving, about a third of the advertised range seems to come from energy recovered through braking. On the highway, you rarely brake, so you don't get much regeneration, which explains why the real-world range is often lower than expected. However, in stop-and-go city traffic, especially in summer, I've actually seen my car go further than the initial range estimate.

It might get 300 miles, but only under perfect conditions: nice weather, highway driving at 60 mph, and long distances. EV range is way more all over the place than gas mileage, and just like with ICE cars, those advertised numbers are from perfect tests, not real life.
